Introduction

Energy, Efficiency and Environment are the three E’s that govern the economy of a nation as well as the well being of the people. In this context, I am immensely privileged to organize this International Conference on Energy Efficient Technologies for Sustainability (ICEETS 2013) with technical co-sponsorship of IEEE Madras Section from 10^th to 12^th of April 2013 at St. Xavier’s Catholic College of Engineering, Nagercoil, TN, India. The objective is to provide an intellectual forum for professionals of different culture to express and outline their vision of the research and development activities in Energy Efficient Technologies. I hope that this conference would have offered chance for leading researches, engineers and scientists to exchange novel thoughts and applications in relation to the latest developments and to find global partners for future collaboration.

Formulation of Theme & Technical Committee

The planning and preliminary works were initiated by our Principal Dr. S. Joseph Sekhar along with Prof. Julius Jaisingh during the month of August 2012. However, it took a final shape only in the month of December 2012. The topics for deliberation for Energy Efficient Technologies were demarcated into six technical tracks as Alternate Energy, Building Technologies, Automotive Technologies, Modelling and Design, Manufacturing Systems and Power Systems. Technical Committee was formed with experts in this field, who are working in various fields and parts of our nation as well as around the globe with their consent and continuous support.

Sponsorship

Technical Co-sponsorship was acquired and agreements were made to publish the conference proceeding in IEEE Explore digital library in association with its Madras Section and Educational Society Chapter. Moreover, the technical bodies such as SAE, ISHRAE, IET and University of Ontario shared their technical expertise for this conference. Financial assistance has been sorted from Govt. funding agencies such as DST, CSIR, MNRE, etc and we are likely to get some of them.

Agreements were made with Trans Tech Publishers to publish selected papers with the consent of the authors in the Journal, ‘Advance Materials Research’ as a special volume titled as ‘Energy Efficient Technologies for Sustainability’ with Dr. S. Joseph Sekhar, Dr. R. Edwin Raj and Dr. B.S.S. Daniel as guest editors.

Publicity

The website for ICEEETS 2013 was hosted in December 2012 with the website address as www.iceets13.com. Around 2000 conference brochures were printed and mailed to Research Institutes, Research Supervisors, Research Scholars, Post Graduate Program Coordinators, etc in and around our nation and abroad. More than 8000 email-id’s of relevant people were collected personally by our ICEETS team and the information were mailed to them directly. The conference details were also informed to the world through conference alert web service and 9000 emails were sent by them to people who are interested to the theme of the conference. Our media partner Renewable Energy Data Base has also helped us in the publicity works.

Paper Submission & Publication Process

Wide publicity of the conference within our nation and abroad has brought people from all regions, especially we are glad to receive delegates from Delhi, Uttarkhand, West Bengal, Gujarat, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Maharastra, Odhisa, etc representing most of the prestigious institution like IIT’s and NIT’s of our country. We are glad to have foreign delegates from Iran, Australia, and Bangladesh.

The ICEETS 2013 Organizing Committee adopted full electronic paper submission system for transparency and efficiency. All the technical research papers were checked for plagiarism through iThenticate professional plagiarism checker provided by IEEE. This plagiarism check tool gives the Similarity Index. The Similarity index is the index which shows how much the technical paper is similar to other published research papers in journals, conferences and other materials available in website. Similarity indices greater than 60% were not considered for review and those below 60% were taken through reviews for accessing the quality of the papers.

The quality of the submitted papers and diversity in participation, geographically and professionally, has made ICEETS 2013, the great success. The conference featured 12 keynote speeches, 339 full paper presentations. ICEETS 2013 received more than 700 full papers from more than 2500 authors from various countries. Out of which 338 papers were accepted for full paper presentation with acceptance rate below 50 %. The fee collection process was done through the conference current account: ICEETS 2013 by net banking process or DD.

The entire accepted papers of the conference were prepared in a CD as the conference proceedings. However, it will be bifurcated into IEEE proceedings and AMR periodicals within a month and will be processed for publication with respective publishers and the details will be intimated to every registered author.

Execution of the Conference

A ship without a rudder will not reach the destination that is the role of our beloved Principal and the Conference Chair Dr. S. Joseph Sekhar. Meticulous planning for ten venues with each having five sessions, accounting to 50 sessions, chaired by 100 chairs persons is not an easy task.

With great sense of relief and satisfaction, I stand before you because of the dedicated, committed efforts of ICEETS TEAM, consisting of faculty members, research scholars and UG & PG students. All the credit for the success of this conference belongs to each one of them and I personally own all the short comings and mistakes of this conference.

To conclude, I thank from the depth of my heart all who have contributed whole heartedly for the success of this conference. In this juncture, I should place on record the full freedom provided by the management along with their entire machinery to support and back our efforts for organizing this conference. Personally, I give all the glory and honour to my Lord and Saviour Christ Jesus for enabling me to organize this conference successfully.
